I was curious about this trendy new treatment, so I watched an eyelash perming and have to say that the biggest don’t I can report is: Don’t try this at home! I’m sure many have successfully permed their own lashes, but seeing the care that goes into a professional service and the possibility of something going wrong – from half curled, half not lashes to perm solution put straight into your eye, I’m sticking with this being a professional treatment only.

Eyelash perming may seem like a very trivial treatment to some, but to those who have very straight lashes it’s a quick and fairly inexpensive way to conquer yet another beauty dislike. The treatment I saw took less than 10 minutes from start to finish and cost about $50. A small price to pay said the client who had spent more than he (that’s right, HE) wanted to recall on lush lashes. Here’s a brief overview of how the treatment works. First a specialist cleans and dries your lashes and the skin around your eyes. Then an adhesive strip of cotton is placed right along the lower lash line so that when you close your eye, your upper lashes lay across the cotton. Then a glue is placed along the top lid behind the lashes. The perming rod is held in place there and the lashes are carefully brushed and curled against the rod which is also covered in adhesive.

Here’s where you can miss some lashes, clump them or pull them too tight and cause possible breakage. Again I say, pay for the service! Once the lashes are spread evenly against the rod, a diluted perm solution (yes, this is just like a hair perm!) is worked into the lashes.  A round, cotton pad is then placed over the entire eye to hold the solution against the lashes. You then wait the desired time and viola! You’ve got permed lashes. The results were much as you’d expect. His lashes were curled and stayed that way. You can also opt for a permanent tint to darken and thicken your lashes while you’re there.

The treatment was quick and painless according to the client who reminds his fellow men that girls will always comment when a guy has thick lashes. “They love that!” The ladies in the shop said that having curled lashes meant they didn’t have to do anything but wash their face on a Saturday morning or after a workout and they still looked like they had a little makeup on – enough to go to Starbucks at least.

How To Recognize a Stroke – Symptoms And Signs

The loss of vision in one eye that occurs suddenly and improves within 24 hours (usually 5-10 min) usually presents transient lack of blood supply to the eye and is called amaurosis fugax.
  • Homonymous hemianopia is loss of vision to one side, so that the patient can not see half of the visual field (right or left side depends of the stroke). Double vision occurs when the visual axis of both eyes is different, which occurs as a result of nerve damage that control the movements of the eye apples.dizziness – stroke and TIA may cause dizziness and loss of balance. Stretching of the meninges may occur during swelling of the brain which can occur a short time (minutes to hours) by bleeding in the brain or a few days from a heart attack when the brain swelling (edema) is the largest.  Bleeding on the surface of the brain (subarachnoid hemorrhage) typically causes a very strong headache because the blood directly irritates the pain sensitive meninges. In some cases, stroke may be caused by the termination of the inner layer of the arteries wall of the brain (dissection) and cause severe pain which is transferred to the head or if dissection is a blood vessel in the neck.
  • Vomiting – vomiting may be caused by direct lesion of the centers to retrieve the base of the brain (medulla) or increased pressure in the skull (increased intracranial pressure) which puts pressure on them. When the nerves which receive information to maintain balance are getting damaged it also occurs dizziness and feelings of nausea and vomiting.
  • Disturbance of consciousness – stroke and TIA can cause degradation or loss of consciousness. It may occur as a complication of strokes (eg. seizures), further due to the direct involvement of the centers to maintain awareness found in part of the brain (brain stem), when attacks happen in that region or increased intracranial pressure which directly or indirect pressures on centers in the brainstem.

Exercise Takes Two!

It can be hard to maintain an exercise regimen when you have a hectic schedule. It’s also hard to stay motivated when you’re the only one exercising. One way to make your exercise regimen more interesting is to involve your significant other as your workout buddy. Try this exercise out as a fun way to add variety to your workout:

  • Both you and your partner should be sitting on the floor facing each other with your knees up and together (think of the way you would position yourself to do a sit-up).
  • Both of your toes should be touching but not overlapping. One of you should be holding a round ball no smaller than a tennis ball and no bigger than a basketball.
  • To begin, whoever has the ball should lie down with their arms to their chest, holding the ball, while the other person stays in the upright position.
  • As you do your sit-up with the ball in your hands, pass the ball off to your partner, who then lies down.
  • Remain sitting up until your partner has come back up and hands the ball back to you.
  • Each person should do a full sit-up (or crunch) 8-10 times and then rest.
  • Repeat as desired. Don’t have a ball to use? Follow these same steps but instead of passing a ball back and forth, share a quick kiss as you complete each sit-up. That may be all the motivation you and your partner need!

Ergonomics is a concept that is now pretty much synonymous with working in office environments. Although working in a cubicle and sitting in front of a computer sound fairly harmless, you’d be surprised by the possibilities for injury that can be incurred without the proper accommodations. Simply put, ergonomics is actually a scientific way of studying how humans interact with machines in the workplace. When a person is more comfortable in their work environment, they’ll be able to produce better quality work as well as avoid potential injury.

Hypersensitive teeth (dentine hypersensitivity) is a pathological condition in which the exposed dentin (dental tissue that lies between the enamel surface of the tooth and cement-centered dental pulp), which makes your teeth sensitive to mechanical, osmotic, chemical or thermal stimuli.

Stimulation leads to displacement of dentine fluid inside and outside (through dentine channels that extend from the pulp through the dentine), leading to transmission of stimulated nerve endings in the pulp and subsequent pain. Dentin hypersensitivity is one of the most common symptoms that patients complain when visiting the dentist.

What causes hypersensitive teeth?

Causes of dentin hypersensitivity are many: loss of enamel due to the effects of mastication and parafunctional power (chewing) or due to erosion caused by acidic foods. On the other hand, the withdrawal of the gums due to periodontal disease or inadequate technique of brushing, stripping of root causes and the loss of a thin layer of cement that protects the root. In these cases, there is exposure to the dentine channels for simulation, such as mastication, entering hot and cold liquids and food. Exposed parts of the teeth lead to pain that can cause problems. For example, people with sensitive teeth will be very difficult to drink cold drinks, eat chocolate or ice cream with a spoon.
